Medium: Mixed media

Drawn to Japanese and oriental art and inspired by iconic artists Daquian and Tohaku. Poole delves in to beauty and balance and the effect it has on the viewer, taking the onlooker to another world inspired by glowing gold leafed screens and delicate sumi ink art on washi paper. Trying to capture the energy and beauty of our interactions with nature and the environment. Poole’s work is a reflection of memories and emotions, of places glimpsed or visited, sometimes in the flesh but often in the imagination. Although still visually decorative she brings a vibrant dichotomy of east and western visuals with soul and a joi de vivre.

Nowadays Poole works more organically either starting with an abstract image and taking the image to a more traditional place, or the opposite; beginning with a traditional Japanese composition culminating in the slightly more abstract but using symbols and nature to bring the images together.
Producing original artworks and hand embellished limited edition prints . Also Works on commission

Having trained as a decorative painter with designer Thomas Messel in the 1980s, Teresa Poole learnt techniques that have followed her through life, gilding, marbling, verse eglomise, and grisaille murals. She then moved to london and specialised in restoring and painting oriental screens and lacquer. She has travelled internationally with murals and art collections on the QE2, in Italy, Australia, Amsterdam, Ibiza and a collection of murals in Florida USA. She also has artwork and murals more locally at Calcot Manor, the Mahal restaurant and Cotswold Grange hotel in Cheltenham

She works from Victoria works studios in Stroud and takes commissions.

Between heaven and earth III
Lotus and lily semi abstract oriental inspiration

Between heaven and earth I
Memories of a wonderful sunny day next to water.. water lilies in bloom on the water and lotus above . Taking the onlooker to another place in another time . Inspired by the great japanese and Chinese artists Tohaku and daquian abstracting oriental brushwork and pushing it into the abstract. Poole starts with a traditional oriental composition on gold metal leaf to capture the essence of nature. Of the Lotus and water lily symbolising rebirth.. growing from the muddy depths to produce beauty and hope and the fish for prosperity… then finishing with flowing ink rivers merging into black sumi ink taking the imagination into realms of above and below water. Painted on lightly patinated gold metal leaf ( dutch metal) on to a very deep wooden panel using traditional and natural techniques sumi ink, casein, powder pigment to produce a glowing image

Spring moon
In crafting this piece, I channeled the serene yet complex beauty of moonlit nights. The minimalist approach, with oriental influences and semi-abstract elements, reflects a dance between light and darkness. Using india ink and gilding, the work exudes elegance and mystique. This painting invites contemplation, infusing any space with a sense of peace and an air of enigmatic charm. Every stroke and gilded accent is a step in an eternal, celestial waltz.
