Artist Profile
Safa Aslam
I’m Safa – an artist who loves drawing and printmaking. I graduated with an English literature and teaching qualification and have been working in the education sector for over seventeen years. As a part-time Reading Specialist teacher, I facilitate a love for reading in young children. I dedicate the remaining part of my working week to my creative practice. Although I have no formal education in art, I’ve always loved creating and making things. Time spent with my sketchbook, lost in a drawing, allows me to be present and enjoy things that are important to me.
My sketchbook becomes my travelling companion when I’m off solo travelling. I’m always excited to explore a new place and record moments of awe and wonder in the form of drawings. New colours, landscapes and people fill my sketchbook, fostering a deep connection to the moment. Drawings of the grand gardens of Alhambra, the lighthouse island of Faro and the whimsical landscape of Cappadocia, are just a few that have progressed onto the creation of linocuts.
