Artist Profile
Miranda Whitten-Walker
Miranda Whitten-Walker is an early-career artist and fine art printmaker based in rural Herefordshire. Her work is particularly influenced by British hill ranges and the wildlife she finds while roaming the landscape.
Miranda embarked on printmaking in 2023 and immediately found it both thrilling and instinctive. She now concentrates on making multi-layer linocut prints using the reduction technique, in very limited variable editions. This slow, cumulative process feels perfect for describing the erosive forces that shape a landscape and imbue it with stories. The resulting vibrant prints have a painterly feel, often deliberately composed with unusual perspectives and with Miranda’s distinctive patterns and abstractions that hint at the imprints left by humans, animals and the elements. Almost entirely self-taught, Miranda is constantly experimenting and has recently started creating drypoint etchings.
Miranda is a former professional biologist and she also combines her deep understanding of nature and decades of close observation, in the creation of detailed wildlife paintings and mixed-media colour drawings.
Miranda works from her home studio in Kington, Herefordshire, and is often out exploring on her motorbike or bicycle, stopping for plein-air sketches. She is a member of the Aberystwyth Printmakers and a fellow of the RSA.
Miranda is happy to discuss licensing, commissions or teaching opportunities.
Medium: Print Making, Painting, Drawing, Mixed media
