Artist Profile
Mel Gibson-Brown
I’m an abstract artist and poet based in Surrey, UK. I am inspired by the energy of bold colour, movement and texture and how art can awaken emotions in us. My work is deeply influenced by the experiences of love, loss and inner mental conflict, transforming those emotions into expressive art compositions. My paintings are created as a journey of imagination and feeling, inviting everyone to find their own meaning, whether that brings joy, hope, inspiration or simply a moment of reflection. Through each piece I explore ideas such as; being connected to those we have lost; the beauty of things that are imperfect and aged; the beautiful chaos of thoughts that can overwhelm us mentally and the pure simplicity of silence and calm. I want to be able to create artwork that resonates and encourages you to discover your own connection to a piece. I love the tactility of using compound texture to add dimension and depth and I see the threads as lines that mirror all the emotions and thoughts that have gone into each composition. My style develops and changes with each series I create, but the one constant is the texture threads that bind my creative process.
