Profile

Lianne Short is a contemporary abstract painter, originally from Bristol, now based in Wiveliscombe, Somerset.

Her powerful and atmospheric paintings offer the viewer to get lost in familiar seascapes or to find their own meaning within the brush strokes, textures and colours on the canvas.

Of her work Lianne says,

‘I paint intuitively, translating what I feel, rather than what I see, onto the canvas. This allows me to be inspired by my feelings, thoughts and memories whilst playing with the boundaries of control and freedom as I create each piece. Using various tools and brushes, I enjoy creating work that gives the viewer the opportunity to find their own translation of what they see and explore the feelings that each piece provokes.’

Gaining her degree in Drawing and Applied Arts at The University of the West of England in 2010, and her Postgraduate Diploma in Design in 2020, Lianne’s creative studies were largely based on papercutting and exploring layers, shadows and light. Since then, her creative practice has grown and evolved as she now uses paint and canvas to express and realise her creative identity.
