Artist Profile
Jo Thorne
Jo Thorne is a British contemporary expressionist artist specialising in oil painting. She graduated with a degree in Fine Art from the University of Hertfordshire (St. Albans School of Art) in 1998 and works from her studio at her home in Bristol.
Jo’s richly coloured abstract paintings aim to transcend the viewer into a paradoxical World where the physical and the imaginary cross over.
“I use colour and expressive mark-making to convey a feeling or mood. My process is to take inspiration from visual elements of the physical world so there are recognisable aspects to the final piece. But I paint spontaneously and meditatively, often to music; embracing unconscious mark-making and heightening colour as I go. By allowing the painting to take its own course, the painting becomes a bridge between the tangible and the abstract”.
