Artist Profile
Craig Askew
The main body of my work is based around Plymouth Sound, looking out and recording the changing weather and times of the day looking across the water from Cornwall towards Devon. My practice begins with making visual notes in the location I am working by writing observations and making drawings in my journals, these are then used to develop paintings in the studio. I try to convey the connection I have with the sea and place at that moment. I describe my works as windows upon the sea. My work is a record of a moment in time, a memory, or an expression of a place I know intimately.
Currently I have begun a new project moving around the Cornish coastline, drawing and painting the different harbours. the new work currently underway is based around the port of Charlestown.
I am also available for commission based work.
