Artist Profile
Anita Sahu
I am an NHS Ophthalmologist for the last thirty years and an evolving self taught artist. My art is a window to my soul, a journey to the past, a story to tell, a moment to experience and capture on canvas for eternity.
My art is an amalgam of ancient culture, folkloric themes, tribal traditions, using natural materials, colours and dyes interwoven with myths and legends to create an illusion of the ethereal and immortal. I try to capture the strong forms of the masculine and feminine, the Physical and metaphysical, the Prakriti and purush. Bold strokes interlaced with intricate details, building texture and emphasis and a free flow of thought to create order and harmony on a blank canvas. It is an expression of my emotions and individuality and a path to an internal journey ,we all need to make at some stage in life.I have always been drawn to the ancient arts and architecture and seek to explore the principles of Arth (meaning), Kama (desire), Dharma (virtue) and Moksha (liberation) through my art. For me art has a connection with the mysteries of the ancient world, a bridge between the old and new.
Being a medical doctor, has given me a human perspective, attention to detail and an empathy I hope to convey through my work. I feel art should be creative, contemplative and expressive. It should be transformative, stimulating, uplifting and therapeutic. I want to explore the beneficial effects of art and its power to heal.
