Turquoise Waves VI is an original oil painting inspired by the beautiful beaches in North Cornwall. It shows a large turquoise wave cresting onto a sandy beach with sea foam coming up under the wave.
I aim to capture both the tranquility of the shoreline and power of the ocean. Showing large ocean waves crashing onto the shoreline. Each wave painting is designed to bring the atmosphere and calm of the ocean embracing the coast.
There’s something special about an original painting from the brushstrokes, texture and layers of colour to its’ own uniqueness. Art allows us to get in touch with our emotions. Whether triggering a great memory and reminding us of a captivating place, or evoking the power of the oceans.
For my work I like to use oil paint. This medium is very versatile allowing you to add thick impasto layers or more fluid translucent ones. As a result this medium is very useful when you want to capture ocean waves in all their forms and variety of colours. Also it is such robust a medium I can scrape the paint back or scratch into it too for added texture.
I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth. I have exhibited my paintings throughout Devon and gained an award at the Exeter Short Film festival. My films and photographs have been exhibited on the South Bank, London and in Italy. I am a Geopark Ambassador Artist for the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark.
